Dr. LaTrice L. Dowtin - therapist at PlayfulLeig Psyched

Hi, I am Dr. Dowtin a Black cisgender woman who is a licensed clinical professional counselor with a Ph.D. in clinical psychology. This means that I am trained, educated, and licensed as a psychologist and as a counselor.

I am the founder and executive director here at PlayfulLeigh Psyched, which is a private teletherapy practice that has been serving Maryland, Virginia, Florida, and Missouri since 2018. When I think of home, I think of the DMV (if you know, you know) because that is where I grew up.  However, I have not lived there in over 6 years. I have lived in over 10 states and visited 34 states in the US. As a Black trauma therapist, my lived experiences traveling the country and interacting with people has continued to inform the way that I work with patients, the way that I will work with you, your child, or your family.

My work is deeply rooted in helping people heal from trauma. There is no trauma too small, no child too young, no adult old, or no trauma too big that we cannot navigate together. I have found that most people have unresolved trauma that is getting in the way of them living the life - no - experiencing the life that helps them feel whole. I help with that. From interventions such as Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) for adults and children, to Inner Child Healing work for adults, to Child Parent Psychotherapy for infants and toddlers, and Parent-Child Interaction therapy for parents of young children, and many others, I am not only trained, I am experienced with over 12 years in supporting the healing journey of hundreds of people just like you.

I am on the Executive Council for the National Network of NICU Psychologists (NNNP) as an incoming co-chair (2022 - 2025), and serve as a member of the National Perinatal Association’s Perinatal Mental Health Workgroup. I do these things as volunteer acts of service to help decrease generational trauma.

While my work is not limited to one specific race or cultural group, I have a commitment to dedicate a portion of my caseload to serving people from historically, racially, and linguistically marginalized populations with a special focus on Black and brown communities and the Deaf community.

I aim to disrupt the transmission of generational trauma from conception through adulthood. I look forward to supporting you on your journey. Schedule your first session today.

PlayfulLeigh,
